Viking Gold Completes Summer Exploration Progrm
Toronto, Ontario - August 24, 2009 - Viking Gold Exploration Inc. (TSX-V: VGC) announces that it has completed its 2009 summer exploration program. The program consisted of drilling, surface mapping and sampling on its Morris Lake (Narrow Lake) property, which is situated in the northern portion of the Yellowknife volcanic belt.
A total of 604 meters of drilling was completed in 3 holes at two drill sites. The original plan called for 1,000 meters to be drilled, however, drilling equipment problems resulted in reduced output within planned time frames. Nevertheless, the combination of holes from these two drill sites provides the first significant drill testing of the Ormsby gold zone south of the Tyhee Development Corp. ("Tyhee") discovery.
Viking Gold has submitted its drill core for assaying and expects to receive the assay results before the end of September.
The claims tested by this drill program have been optioned from Peregrine Diamonds Ltd. Viking Gold can earn a 60% interest in these claims by spending $1 million by September 9, 2011. To date, approximately $450,000 has been spent.
Tyhee has recently established a substantial gold resource through its work in recent years on a nearby mineralized trend, extending northerly for a distance of 3,000 meters to the high-grade past producer, Discovery Yellowknife Gold Mine. Please refer to the websites of both Tyhee (www.tyhee.com) and Viking Gold (see below) for additional information on this area of exploration.
Robert M. Ginn, Ph. D., P.Eng, President of Viking Gold, is the Qualified Person responsible for the Morris Lake project and has verified the information reported above.
